Ukraine, Trump, and Conflict with Mr. Yaroslav Trofimov: A Luncheon Conversation

During a luncheon discussion the Council was joined by Mr. Yaroslav Trofimov, chief foreign-affairs correspondent at The Wall Street Journal. He covers major issues and developments around the world. Born and raised in Kyiv, he draws on his experience covering wars and conflicts in various parts of the world since 2001. Mr. Trofimov’s presentation covered the war in Ukraine, President Trump’s support for European security, and the interconnectedness of global conflict. Mr. Trofimov won the National Press Club award for political analysis in 2024, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2023 for his coverage of the war in Ukraine and in 2022 for the coverage of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, among other honors. A graduate of New York University, he joined the Journal in 1999 and previously served as Rome, Middle East, and Singapore-based Asia correspondent, as bureau chief in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and as Dubai-based columnist writing on the greater Middle East.
