The Council of American Ambassadors invites you to listen in as U.S. Ambassador to Norway Marc Nathanson (2022 – 2024) joins U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Thomas Siebert (1994 – 1998) to share about his time at post.
Ambassador Nathanson and Ambassador Siebert dive into a wide range of topics, including:

About the Speakers:
Ambassador Marc Nathanson was the U.S. Ambassador to Norway from 2022 to 2024. In this role, he helped establish the American Presence Post in Tromso, signed two U.S.-Norwegian supplemental military treaties, and established the Minnesota National Guard and Norwegian military partnership program. Nathanson is also chair of Mapleton Investments. Previously, he was co-chair of the Pacific Council on International Policy, vice chair of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and former Secretary of State Clinton’s representative to the East-West Center board of governors in Honolulu. Early in his career, Nathanson was the founder and CEO of Falcon Cable TV, and then vice chair of Charter Communications cable operator. He is an Aspen Institute trustee and a Council on Foreign Relations member.
Ambassador Thomas Siebert was the U.S. Ambassador to Sweden from 1994 to 1998 and is a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. After his ambassadorial post, he served as Chairman of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference in 1998 where he was a parliamentarian and negotiator on such contentious issues as Palestinian membership to the ITU. Amb. Siebert is an expert in international business and governmental affairs related to telecom, IT, renewable energy, and clean technology. He has served as a Washington, DC telecommunications attorney specializing in practice before the Federal Communications Commission principally in the area of new technologies. He is on the Board of Advisors for the International Criminal Court Project.
Currently, Amb. Siebert serves on the Diplomatic Council on Energy Security, a non-profit organization committed to reducing America’s dependence on oil and improving U.S. energy security. Amb. Siebert’s particular areas of expertise include: cellular telephone, broadcast television and radio, cable television and various “convergence” technologies designed to advance new telecommunications applications. He is a member of the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University Law School and a member of the Board of Visitors and Governors of Washington College. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the American-Scandinavian Foundation. He received his B.A. at Georgetown University and J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center.
